What is MEV?

MEV (Maximal Extractable Value) is the additional profit a block producer can make outside of the standard block reward and gas fees by strategically including, excluding, or reordering transactions within a block. While MEV itself is a neutral concept, the method of extraction can have either a positive or negative impact on the ecosystem.

• Non-Ethical MEV : Practices like sandwich attacks and front-running, which profit at the expense of ordinary users, harm market fairness and negatively impact the ecosystem.

• Ethical MEV : These MEVs create positive-sum value by enhancing the overall efficiency and health of the network without harming users. This includes strategies like Arbitrage, which resolves price discrepancies across exchanges, and Liquidation, which improves the stability of DeFi protocols.
